DescriptionJob Summary
Under general supervision the candidate will perform duties specific to the Central Biorepository Shared Resource (CBSR). Duties will include coordinating the receipt of biospecimens and associated data from clinical and research laboratories;inventorying and tracking biospecimens in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); performing molecular laboratory techniques including RNA/DNA isolation; handson operation of laboratory instrumentation including nucleic acid quantitation devices; and ordering equipment supplies and reagents needed for daily operations.
Education/Experience
Bachelors degree in the biological and/or physical sciences with two years of research experience OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to listen and communicate effectively
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel Word and PowerPoint
- Experience with RNA and DNA nucleic acid preparation and handling is preferred

Dr. Kimberly Reeves and Dr. James DaunaisCoDirectors of the CBSR
Essential Functions:
- Confer with CBSR CoDirectors and Core Manager to develop overall standard operating procedures for the collection processing cataloguing and distribution of biospecimens and associated data.
- Maintain instrumentation up to specifications running all standards and analyses necessary to assure the highest possible quality of samples and data.
- Make independent decisions regarding problem solving of daily technical issues that may routinely arise during sample processing.
- Attend assigned training for equipment and software use and for sample collection processing storage and distribution.
- Independently develop test and implement new procedures as they are required by other investigators.
- Prepare detailed spreadsheets with sample information and accurately enter data into the LIMS.
- Interact and collaborate with Principal Investigators and other personnel who are utilizing the CBSR including those in clinical and research laboratories.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
