Job Description

Position Title: Adjunct Instructor of Shop Tools

Focus Instruction: (Drill Press Bandsaw Shop Tools Material Recognition Material Design Layout Cutting and Grinding)


Position Type: Part Time/Adjunct

Location: Ranger College

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Job Description Overview: The Adjunct Industrial Maintenance Instructor will be responsible for providing high quality instruction over the safety measures characteristics and proper use of industrial equipment materials and tools. They must report and maintain documentation of students progress attendance and performance. Perform other duties that are assigned. The instructor may be required to work with industry to create a customized shop tool curriculum that fits their needs and schedule. Develop lesson plans and create industrial maintenance activities. The instructor must have a strong background working in the industrial maintenance industry. They must have a strong passion for teaching supporting and preparing students to reach their educational goals.

Job Description Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate on how to properly use tools and equipment while instructing students.
  • Be sure to always supervise all handson activities.
  • Perform other duties that are assigned.
  • May be required to work with industry to create a customized shop tool curriculum that fits their needs and schedule.
  • Instruct students on how to recognize industrial material characteristics.
  • Educate students on the characteristics of materials by density ferrous nonferrous inside and outside diameter metal composition color melting points tarnish and magnetics.
  • Educate students on various types of metals.
  • Instruct students on how to correctly select and safely use industrial shop tools and equipment.
  • Educate students on material design layouts.
  • Educate students on how to properly use tools to cut and grind materials.
  • Instruct students on what safety protective equipment is required while using each tool.
  • Educate students on how to properly take care of shop tools and equipment.
  • Supervise students while they use a bandsaw drill press electric drills pneumatic drills electric hammers screwdrivers hammers nut runners linearmotion and circular motion saws wrenches routers and planes grinders sanders and shears.
  • Educate students on how to sharpen each tool correctly and safely.
  • Educate students on how to use a bandsaw safely and correctly.
  • Educate students on how to adjust blade height lock blades set up tension guide bearings and choose the correct blade that is needed.
  • Instruct students on how to properly use a drill press safely and correctly.
  • Instruct students on appropriate speeds to use metal and wood chuck and chuck keys change pulleys and belts various types of bits and backer boards.
  • Provides an engaging supportive and positive learning environment.
  • Clearly establishes expectations for learning and achievement.
  • Communicates well with students and staff.
  • Make sure safety measures are always used and the learning environment is safe for all students and staff.
  • Stay up to date with industry advancements and standards in industrial maintenance technology.
  • Plan develop teach and facilitate classes that involve theoretical and handson learning where students can gain the knowledge that is needed in industrial maintenance.
  • Assess student performance provide constructive feedback maintain student progress performance and records.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support program goals and student success.
  • Keep track of students attendance participation progress and grades.
  • Able to develop daily lesson plans and design learning activities.
  • Must be able to set up lab equipment for each class and oversee the labs when they are being used by students.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Mastery of skill in working with industrial shop tools.
  • Patient flexible positive consistent cooperative and dependable.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Must be able to work evenings if needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching or training experience in a technical field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift moderate weights of materials equipment and supplies.
