Groves Learning Organization Internship Information

Groves Learning Organization (GLO) is a nonprofit organization located in St. Louis Park Minnesota. GLO is made up of the Groves Academy Learning Center and Groves Literacy Partnership. We are seeking doctoratelevel internship students to gain experience over an array of psychological services across all parts of the organization.

Psychoeducational Evaluations

Interns will be conducting psychoeducational evaluations and writing reports under the guidance of our team of licensed and certified school psychologists. Our diagnostics team has extensive experience working with children adolescents and adults with a primary focus of working with populations with suspected learning and attention disorders. Even though most clients exhibit symptoms related to learning and attention disorders we commonly see clients with other needs including those exhibiting anxiety depression and/or other socialemotional issues. Generally our clients are schoolaged but we have served clients between the ages of 5 and 65. The diagnostics team is nestled within The Learning Center at Groves which offers outpatient services such as tutoring speech/language therapy and diagnostic evaluations. While the majority of our clients are outpatient referrals from the community we actively work with our day school by completing evaluations providing professional development and assisting teachers in other matters to meet the needs of our students.

Interns at Groves would have the opportunity to work with external clients from the greater community and to assist our day school with updating testing to help track progress. Through their experience conducting evaluations we offer access to many instruments including cognitive academic executive functioning socialemotional personality language and neuropsychological assessments. Upon showing mastery of the assessments we administer interns will be allowed to complete comprehensive written reports. Our goals include fostering the students independence to complete the full provision of services offered to the client including completing the clinical interview administering and scoring the assessments writing the evaluation report and providing feedback to the clients.

Groves Academy Student Support

Groves Academy is the leading school in the Midwest for students who have learning disabilities ADHD executive function challenges and other languagebased learning disabilities. Our goal at Groves Academy is to empower students entering 1st12th grade to gain the skills and confidence they need to achieve lasting success. We offer instruction that is explicit structured and multisensory. Interns will have the opportunity to be involved with Groves Academy by attending weekly meetings consulting with teachers to provide needed support in the classroom and provide academic and/or socialemotional interventions to students.

Interns will be involved in the multitiered systems of supports that is tailored to Groves Academy students which may include conducting assessments and incorporating interventions. Interns will also have the opportunity to consult with teachers to support students. They will also participate in the planning and implementation of socialemotional and behavioral interventions for Groves Academy students.

Community and SchoolBased Involvement

Another key component of this internship is to work within our Groves Literacy Partnership. Interns may have the opportunity to collaborate with educational professionals within these community schools. As part of this experience interns may analyze schoolwide screening data to identify and track highrisk students provide consultation to teachers and administrators and assist the school professionals with intervention planning. Interns will learn how to work and consult at the school classroom and individual school level to develop learning plans to help change a childs future pathways and trajectories. We are excited to help develop interns who can work with different populations in a culturally responsive and sensitive way.

Other Potential Experiences

At Groves we are continually developing and creating programming and systems to better serve our students. Based on the goals of the intern these other potential experiences could include participating in analyzing programlevel data to inform programming for the day schools students and engage in researchbased opportunities to continue to develop our understanding of learning and executive functioning disorders. Overall Groves has a variety of different initiatives and opportunities and we want to work with our interns to provide them with desired opportunities that help them achieve their specific longterm professional goals. In addition interns will receive access to weekly consultation with a team of psychologists and interdisciplinary didactics and meetings with other professionals (e.g. speech language pathologists and tutors). We are delighted for you to join our specialized and multidisciplinary team.

We adhere to a developmental model of supervision where we provide more support and guidance during the beginning of the internship year with a goal of the interns becoming autonomous and independent throughout the course of the year. Interns will be able to work with multiple members of our team in attempting to provide the best services to our clients during this fulltime 12month internship. This is a mixed remote and inperson internship with some responsibilities completed facetoface at our site in St. Louis Park Minnesota and various partner schools across the Twin Cities and others being completed remotely over video conferencing programs. Additionally opportunities for postdoctoral positions may be available.
