Job Description

Primary Purpose
Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. This pool is to fill vacancies at the three NOCE Campuses: NOCE Anaheim Campus NOCE Cypress Center and NOCE Wilshire Center.

Job Description
Provide specialized academic counseling services including disability management career and personal counseling to students with disabilities. Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities while maintaining effective relationships with faculty staff and administration. Participate in the development and facilitation of DSS ARISE workshops orientations and other programs for students with disabilities. Maintain confidential records; accurately record information needed to complete mandated reports. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient organized and timely manner. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of program materials and the utilization of effective teaching methodologies and counseling techniques. Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle. Provide 1:1 and group support for students with autism spectrum disorder ASD and other areas of disability. Support students struggling with emotional regulation. Provide guidance and support for appropriate college level behavior skills. Facilitate student small groups. Communicate regularly with DSS Associate Dean and faculty coordinator. Support in classroom outreach and trainings as recommended. Support students online with academic supports.

Essential Functions
Examples of essential functions are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge and experience counseling a broad range of students with disabilities including and specifically individuals with autism. Knowledge of federal and state laws/mandates affecting persons with disabilities. Awareness of and experience with assistive technology. Experience in collaborating with instructional faculty to build accessible and inclusive classroom environments.

Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in rehabilitation counseling OR Masters degree in counseling guidance counseling student personnel clinical or counseling psychology education counseling social work career development marriage and family therapy marriage family and child counseling or a Bachelors degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist MFT ; and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities or completion of six semester units or the equivalent of a graduatelevel counseling practicum or counseling field work courses in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities or two years of fulltime experience or the equivalent in one or more of the following: (A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or (B) Counseling in industry government public agencies military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities or the equivalent. Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students faculty and staff. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.
