Job Description

In this role you will supervise and oversee a Chemistry Team that conducts special researchintensive activities related to emerging chemical constituents in source and treated water chemistry with an emphasis on method development and testing of regulated and unregulated contaminants and constituents of emerging concern (CECs) including but not limited to: per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) microplastics volatile organic chemicals trace organic chemicals including pharmaceutical compounds endocrine disruptors disinfection byproducts naturally occurring earth elements and naturally occurring toxins (e.g. cyanotoxins).

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to: proposing designing and implementing programs and applied research projects on occurrence formation control and treatment of emerging and regulated constituents; managing capital improvement and externally funded projects; preparing technical documents and correspondence on emerging constituents; preparing proposals on programs and projects; writing technical papers and reports and delivering oral presentations at seminars workshops and meetings; reviewing and preparing comments on future and proposed legislation and regulations; directing staff to investigate nonroutine organic and inorganic chemicals using sophisticated instrumentation; applying quality assurance/quality control programs and principles to projects and new analytical methods; administering project contracts and budgets; planning developing and monitoring team budget; and ensuring the safety of staff by implementing safety training and recommendations that result from new regulations event reviews or from inhouse safety specialists.

This job requires working onsite to oversee and manage staff that are also onsite.

Schedule: 9/80 Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and eight years of increasingly responsible relevant experience of which two years must have been in a project management supervisory or lead capacity; OR an advanced degree from an accredited college or university and six years of increasingly responsible relevant experience of which two years must have been in a project management supervisory or lead capacity.

A degree is defined as: A degree in the field of chemistry and/or environmental sciences with an emphasis on water quality and analytical chemistry for CECs and/or other emerging drinking water contaminants.


Relevant experience: Applied water qualityrelated research related to regulated and unregulated contaminants and constituents of emerging concern.

Desirables: A strong record of analytical chemistry methods development; demonstrated understanding of conventional and advanced treatment processes and technologies; experience with designing and conducting applied research studies for constituents and contaminants of emerging concern and other priority concerns in drinking water and recycled wastewater at the bench pilot demonstration and/or full scale; understanding of watershed sources of CECs and disinfection byproducts and DBP precursors; understanding of California and Federal drinking water and recycled water laws regulations and procedures; understanding of human health impacts and principals of toxicology for anthropogenic and naturally occurring environmental constituents; demonstrated selfmotivation and water community involvement through professional society involvements or related activities; an established strong presentation and publication record; and a demonstrated ability to lead technical people.
