Job Description
The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts Sciences at Indiana University consists of a wellrounded research community with cuttingedge expertise in a wide variety of modern disciplines including analytical chemistry organic chemistry inorganic chemistry physical chemistry materials chemistry and biochemistry. Job Summary: The Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking to appoint a fulltime manager of the METACyt Biomolecular NMR Laboratory at the rank of nontenure track assistant research scientist. The METACyt laboratory is part of the campuswide NMR facility that houses a 600 MHz Bruker AVANCE NEO spectrometer (installed 2018 equipped with tripleresonance probes and cryogenic technology and will install a new cryoprobeequipped 800 MHz Bruker AVANCE NEO hybrid spectrometer with solids capabilities in Summer 2024. Both instruments will be integrated into a campus helium recovery system to come online in early 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring operational status; performing cryogen fills; troubleshooting spectrometers keeping instrumentation software and performance records up to date; maintaining checklists/protocols for safe use of the system by different users; training new users in the general operation of the instruments; assisting experienced users in the collection processing and analysis of multidimensional experiments; and contributing to grant proposals that support the facility. In addition this individual would be expected to plan design and implement collaborative NMR projects for the broader research community. There is an option for time to be committed to developing an independent research program if desired.
