Job Summary:

Caterpillars Global Hydraulics Organization within Integrated Components & Solutions Division (ICS) is seeking an engineer to lead the design & development of hydraulic cylinders and all associated subcomponents such as pistons rods tubes heads caps and overall sealing system for Caterpillar products.The successful candidate will be highly engaged with the global product development team to deliver world class hydraulic cylinder products optimized for customer requirements. The position requires complimentary technical commercial and project leadership skills to complete tasks such as defining application and component requirements analysis of risk and FMEAs developing project plans completing design and detailed drawings and coordinating validation plans with supplier or CAT teams who will conduct the work. Job responsibilities also involve detailed analysis of test results or inspection details may be required to ensure design met customer requirements risks are mitigated technical information is reviewed and archived documenting conclusions & recommendations in design reviews and providing updates in team stakeholder meetings.

What You Will Do:

Design responsibility for hydraulic cylinder & suspension products; accountable for meeting customer expectations for product cost quality and delivery (for example)

Contribute to multiple New Product Introduction (NPI) cylinder development projects New Technology Integration (NTI) projects and product cost/quality improvement projects

Conduct Concept and Detailed Design Reviews with the Global Engineering teams

Collaborate with the Global/Regional purchasing and manufacturing facility teams to support the product quality & cost targets supplier process audit sourcing PPAP/APQP process validation

Troubleshoot field failures Warranty claims factory issues

Responsible for detailed drawing release and maintenance conduct continuous product and process development and manage the product Bill of material

Aligned objectives with product groups suppliers and manufacturing process partners

Education Requirement:

Bachelors degree or higher in accredited Engineering field (preferably Mechanical)

ComputerAided Design & Engineering:
Coaches others on orthographic isometric and axonometric projections.
Presents complex products and systems graphically.
Performs manipulations on design objects such as changing projections and managing drawing layers.
Directs the matrix computations performed to transform objects in coordinate space.
Consults on benefits and drawbacks of topdown design vs. bottomup design.
Compares and contrasts uses of birdseye views and wormseye views.

Product Design MFG:
Develops improvement plans for senior management and evaluates the outcome of the design against the functionality.
Advises others on the development of multiple products and their functionality.
Trains others on advanced tools and approaches of product design.
Monitors the processes and procedures of a complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met.
Evaluates feedback from customers and consults on functional weaknesses.
Controls design and development costs of a proposed product through effective resource coordination.

Product Design and Development:
Builds threedimensional models with basic materials.
Communicates with professionals to understand various requirements of product design.
Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use.
Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.
Assists in building a complex prototype of product.

Top candidates will have:

Masters degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum

Component design expertise on mining and construction equipment

Familiarity with cylinder component suppliers and manufacturing processes

The ability to work/lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions

A sense of urgency balanced with a strong commitment to quality

Due to collaboration with global product development teams available for flexible work hours

Experience 2 years of hydraulics industry experience

Strong analytical skills & experience in designing the components to meet the machine system performance requirements and cost targets.

Experience in Project management hands on Creo Tolerance Stackup and GD&T

The ability to effectively develop and manage project plans from concept to production

Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and process partners

Additional Information

The location for this position is Mossville IL.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require up to 10 travel.
