Job Description

Introduction

Join the Focus Area Languages and Literature in the SA Context under the mentorship/ supervision of Prof Rodwell Makombe as a fulltime Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Humanities NorthWest University South Africa

Duties & Responsibilities

The research project to which the candidate will be contributing focuses on issues in contemporary African narratives such as nation and narration gender and migration exploring how a wide range of contemporary literary and cultural texts published in the context of postcoloniality globalisation and/or transnationalism represent the lived experiences of Africans both on the continent and around the world. The project draws on various theoretical frameworks such as postcolonial theory space and queer theory decolonial theory decolonial and postcolonial feminism transnationalism etc to study issues in (and aesthetics of) contemporary African literatures. Given the complexity and wide range of issues in African literatures and cultures potential candidates should demonstrate theoretical versatility so that they can explore different issues from different conceptual perspectives. The project focuses on stories from different parts of Africa including Arab North Africa which arguably has not received much critical attention in Anglophone literary studies

Desired Experience & Qualification

A completed Doctoral degree within the last five years in English/African literature or Postcolonial literary studies; at least 2 published academic journal articles or book chapters or conference proceedings

REMUNERATION

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
