A whopping 11billion plastic bags are used in the UAE annually, according to statistics from UAE’s Ministry of Environment and Water. This amounts to an annual overall waste of 912.5 Kg’s per capita. All this consequently leads to increased waste generation. Realizing the flip-side of high use of plastics, UAE Government has initiated a number of definitive corrective measures. Dubai Municipality launched a ‘Say No To Plastic Bags’ campaign in May 2013, targeting a 20% reduction in the estimated 2.9billion plastic bags used annually in the UAE.
