Our shops play a major part in raising much-needed funds for the Hospice as well as being our public face. Our shops sell a wide range of merchandise from clothing, jewellery, bric-a-brac, electrical items, toys, games and small items of furniture.
We never know what will be donated on any given day.
To deputise and be accountable for all management duties as and when required in the absence of the manager covering periods of absence.
To assist with maximising shop income and Gift Aid.
To actively promote the sale of ancillary products relating to the Hospice lottery/scratch cards etc.
To assist the manager in ensuring merchandise is displayed attractively.
To help to meet or exceed sales targets.
To ensure that the premises are welcoming, and kept clean and tidy.
To assist the Manager in ensuring that Health and Safety regulations are adhered to and legislation met.
To generate sufficient stock to meet sales requirements.
To assist with stock rotation regularly and cull unsold donations, including disposal for the best return.
To assist the Manager with the completion of KPIs as required.
To supervise, train colleagues (where applicable) and maintain adequate staffing/volunteer levels to open the shop as advertised.
To assist with the recruitment, induction, training, motivation and engagement of volunteers ensuring that the role matches their specific skill set.
To assist with keeping an up to date record of volunteers, and contact details and pass them forward as required.
To keep volunteers and other members of staff informed of shop performance and any likely changes.
To assist the manager with the administration of the shop and timely return of information hardcopy or online as required.
Ensure that takings are kept secure and banked regularly.
To maintain an awareness of developments in local shops, particularly other units representing charities and update the Head of Retail as required.
To attend meetings as requested.
To cover and manage other shops as deemed necessary by the Head of Retail.
To act as the secondary key holder and to respond appropriately to any emergencies out of hours or otherwise in the absence of the manager.
Ensure that St Raphael s Hospice and retail policies are adhered to at all times.
Maintenance/Health & Safety
To notify the Assistant to the Director of Income Generation in the event of a break-in or breach of security reporting to the police as required.
To hold shop keys and meet G4S or the emergency services on-site as required.
To provide a safe environment for staff, volunteers and customers.
To report any maintenance issues promptly to the Assistant to the Director of Income.
To ensure the premises meet H&S regulations at all times.
Proven retail management or relevant management qualification
Experience of working in a customer focussed environment
Experience of working to targets
Knowledge and or experience of training and recruitment
of staff/volunteers
Ability to recognise and research stock to ensure appropriate pricing, to achieve sales revenue targets
Previous stock control experience
Knowledge of the charity retail and fundraising
Ability to achieve the highest level of retail standards
Good IT and administration skills
Excellent customer service skills
Highly motivated with the enthusiasm to progress and achieve targets
Calm and professional and able to work individually or as part of a team
Physically fit and able to carry out all aspects of
manual handling
Flexibility and self-motivation is a must
Excellent organisational skills
