REQUIREMENTS:

Ph.D. degree in Chemistry/Surface Science/Chemical Engineering/Materials Sciences, or relevant field

Â.

Prior experience in managing organization with direct reports of multiple technical levels (including technicians, engineers/chemists, MS and Ph.D.s). Preference for someone with experience in Surface Science and Advanced Characterization techniques. This position is heavily focused on delivering Surface Science and Advanced Characterization capabilities to provide insight and solve problems at surfaces and interfaces in mind. 10 Plus years of industrial experience beyond Ph.D., 5 plus years of managerial experience that includes setting peoples goals and objectives and providing official performance assessment. Ability to reach out across organizational lines with sound communications including interactions with technology counterparts in the businss unit, and business. Robust track record of patents and peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrated examples of successful translation of technical and managerial expertise into impactful success.

Mastery of related or adjacent technologies in surface science or advanced charaterization used in understanding the chemistry and physics of surfaces and interfaces of hard and soft matter. The ability to leverage current knowledge base to new areas. Strong Project management experience very useful. Knowledge in chemicals and polymer production and products is beneficial.

Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, wellingness to teach and mentor, action-oriented, critical thinker. Ability to reach out and build relationships and projects that will leverage the SSAC capabilities. Skills at developing high performing individuals, project teams and organization is essential. Able to establish a robust team environment and leverage capabilities with both strategic and tactical success in mind.

JOB PURPOSE:

Â.

Provide strategic and tactical leadership in enhancing competitiveness and sustainability by understanding and exploiting technology at the frontier of Surface Science and Advance Characterization. Understand Business Units and manufacturing strategic needs and identify research and collaborative opportunities. Catalyze the innovative process by forming close working relationships within Corporate Research and Development (CRD) groups in Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Polymers and Material Science as well as Business Research and Development (BRD) and manufacturing groups. Generate impact to help solve high value CRD programs and BRD problems and creating value for company by leveraging the group capabilities to generate multi-scale (atomic, nanoscale, micro-) understanding. Develop & manage external networks and technical partnerships. Develop a talent pipeline and succession plan. Support the director in preparing reports, evaluating technologies, and summarizing the impact of projects on future.

Strategy: Accountable for execution of all Surface Science and Advanced Characterization (SSAC) programs within its existing protfolio, develop a pipeline of future projects through diversification within the portfolio, by increasing the breadth of skills and capabilities to enable a, and for developing the SSAC facility and team. Generate impact to help solve high value CRD and BRD programs through collaborative activities, creating value for company by leveraging the SSAC capabilities to generate multi-scale (atomic, nanoscale, micro-) understanding of the chemistry and physics of surfaces and interfaces.

Portfolio Management: Leads and oversees the technical aspects of all SSAC-related programs in the CRD. Focused on execution of projects to address the defined goals of the portfolio. Interact with client & stakeholders of project portfolio and set group priority Consolidate financial and progress reports in coordination with project leaders, T&I P&C and platform leaders. Track expenses with the concerned sections within T&I and the corporate finance group.

CRD Coordination, Manpower and Talent Management: Works in cross functional manner with leadership of CRD and BRD to define and develop cross functional matrixed project teams. Propose clear vision, goals, milestones and deliverables for the research projects and report to higher management on progress. Mentor/develop scientists and engineers to work safely and with a sense of urgency. Establish a robust scientific community with a vital and growth environment. Identify and develop high potentials and help develop success plan. Ensure the acquisition and safe installation of the required laboratory equipment.
